The AutistiX Band Covid-19 Pandemic Update!

The AutistiX update 21.11.20

Like everyone else, we are all trying to get through the world Covid-19 crisis. Luckily none of our band have caught the virus (but the band manager caught it early at the end of March and has been suffering from Long Covid ever since – 8 months and still ongoing. That’s me)!

After many weeks of not getting together when lockdown started, 2 of our band members returned for rehearsals. We were very anxious,  at the same time as being happy to see each other and to start wiping away the cobwebs regarding playing our songs. Initially they stayed outdoors wearing PPE, while we stayed indoors, with the doors wide open. It wasn’t the best way to make music in terms of quality but it was good for our morale. ver the next few months, we slowly allowed the other band members to come indoors since the music rehearsal is very large music and allows everyone to be in the same room but at a safe, social distance.

However, our lead singer, Jim, had no chance of joining us as has been living in Spain with his family for the past couple of years. One day we tried to have a long-distance rehearsal with Jim in Spain but the latency made it too difficult to play together due to the time lag.

Given that all our gigs were cancelled due to the pandemic it was quite exciting when we were invited to appear live on Electric Umbrella on their last show of the season at the end of July. EU, is a wonderful organisation that has been putting on Zoom live music sessions for its viewers throughout the pandemic. Jim joined us from Spain. Electric Umbrella played some of our videos and we even played live on the show, which sounded good despite the time lag, and we ended with a fun Q&A with viewers.  They loved having us on the show and afterwards told us that it was the first time that Electric Umbrella had a rock band perform live on the show!

Despite the ongoing obstacles that we are all facing, we decided to be forward looking at to start to record our newest EP. It will feature 4 of our newest songs, to be revealed soon. Due to the good fortune of having a new large music room, our sound engineer was able to come to our place with his recording gear, to record each member of the band one by one, while being socially distant at home. Our plan is to finish the recording soon and to be able to release it as soon as possible! Keep checking in for updates.

So, as ever, The AutistiX remain strong and positive, despite the challenges that we all face. We rehearse, create, record, play, plan and hope.

Now despite all the difficulties of the present time, we are offering an opportunity! We are looking for a new bass player so if you live convenient to our North London rehearsal location, you play bass, you’d like to be in a unique band, to perform then we would like to hear from you. So please be in contact with us through the contact form or email us at theautistix@gmail.com.
